Hi, I’m Miss Shaikh, and I created Grade Ahead Maths with one goal in mind: to help every child make sense of Maths and build real confidence in the subject.
My background isn’t just as a maths tutor. I’ve worked as an Exam Tutor for Pearson Edexcel, a KS3 and KS4 tutor at Kip McGrath, an Exam Invigilator and most recently as Second Head of the Maths Department. That mix of classroom, exam board, and one-to-one experience means I understand exactly what students need — not just to pass, but to genuinely understand the subject.
Before moving into education full time, I worked in the banking and retail industry. Those years taught me something valuable: Maths isn’t abstract — it’s everywhere. I bring that real-world perspective into every lesson, turning topics that feel confusing into ones that are practical and easy to follow.
Enhanced DBS Checks
What This Means for Your Child
Your child’s safety comes first — I hold an Enhanced DBS check and I’m always glad to show you the certificate.
This is the highest level of background check available in the UK. It looks at any criminal convictions and cautions, and — for anyone working with children — checks them against the Children’s Barred List, which flags people who are legally barred from working with children.
It gives you the same level of assurance that schools require of their own staff. It’s one less thing to worry about when welcoming a tutor into your home or trusting them with your child’s learning.

I hold specialist training in Understanding Autism, Understanding Behaviour That Challenges and Children and Young People’s Mental Health. Every learner is different, and I take pride in creating a calm, patient, and inclusive environment where every student feels supported.
I now focus exclusively on personalised one to-one tuition for KS3, KS4, GCSE, National 4 and National 5 students — online and in person. Whether your child is struggling with confidence, has gaps to fill before exams, or simply needs someone who explains things differently, I’m here to help.
